Brill and Ben is dedicated to making beautiful and unique fabrics live again. I love old blackwork embroidery, rock carvings, steel engravings, graffiti, tattoos and the works of E. A. Poe and these are reflected in the designs I make.
Each of these unique and one-off upcycled pieces on vintage or antique linens is washed with unscented organic producrs, starched with natural unscented starch, embroidered, washed and starched again and hand ironed. When the weather permits they are line dried in my garden. When it's drizzly outside I dry them naturally inside my house on a Victorian laundry rack. So you can be sure that they are clean and ready for use.
Because these are upcycled pieces they may not always be entirely to measure, or may have small blemishes. But nothing serious or life limiting.

Payment
Please make payments with your order, as I won't accept orders or ship your purchase without cleared payment.
Brill and Ben is not currently VAT registered, so the price shown is the same for EU and non-EU buyers.
Shipping
Once you have bought your Brill and Ben linens I will check your purchase, re-iron it, wrap it securely and send it to you within 5 working days (I count working days as Monday to Friday) by the most reliable post. I often get my linens into the post the day after your order arrives, but, for safe, I'm pessimistic about my processing times.
You will probably need to sign for the parcel, so if you are not usually at home when your postal service calls, or if you want your parcel delivered to an office, you may need to pick it up from your post depot if the carrier can't find you.
I will let you know if something unexpected happens and it is going to take more than 5 days to post your purchases.
I will notify you once your purchase is on its way to you.
Inside the UK I send small items (like napkins) by Royal Mail postal service, "1st Class Signed For".
I may send larger, heavier or multiple orders by post or carrier dependant on destination, size, and/or weight.
Outside the UK I send everything by "International Tracked and Signed" (airmail) where available. You may need to sign for the parcel. If tracking and signed for is not available to your country, I will send your parcel by the most secure method.
Royal Mail expects to deliver in:
UK: 1-3 working days from despatch
EU: 3-5 working days from despatch to your country's port of entry. Though, in my experience most parcels to the EU arrive at their destination inside 5 working days.
Rest of World: 5-7 working days from despatch to your country's port of entry. Though, in my experience parcels to the US arrive at the port of entry within 48 hours and get to their destination inside 10 working days (and often less).
Please allow an additional 3 weeks before you start worrying, and be aware that delivery times may be further lengthened by public holidays at either end of the transaction, and during both mine and your post office's busy periods.
These expected postal delivery times for international customers exclude customs processing.
The earliest you can notify an international delivery as lost is 20 working days (25 outside Europe) after the expected delivery date. But, as the post office's delivery times don't include the time your customs will take to process your purchase, nor the time your own postal service takes to deliver to you, you might want to wait a bit longer before you give up hope. Contact me if your purchase doesn't arrive when you expect it to.
All Brill and Ben customers outside the UK are responsible for ensuring their purchase is acceptable in their own country and for paying all of their local taxes, customs duty, processing and import fees.
Additional policies and FAQs
Old linens are beautiful and unique, but they may not always be as perfect as new table linens. Much washing over time may mean that they are not always perfectly square, or sets may have slight variations in size. They may have faint marks from being used and loved, and some linens may have old laundry marks. Very occasionally a little fraying to a seam might have escaped me.
I include laundering instructions with each purchase, but, if you have any questions on care or any problems with your purchase then please contact me for advice as soon as possible, by Etsy conversation, phone or email.
Brill and Ben items are suitable for use as domestic table linen or domestic aprons with proper care.
Brill and Ben are not responsible for any damage caused by wear and tear, cutting, abrasion, incorrect care, heat, prolonged exposure to sunlight, chemicals, staining, unauthorised repair, heavy wear, rough handling or other inappropriate actions.
Brill and Ben upcycled linens can be washed in domestic washing machines at around 30C to 60C. They should be ironed while slightly damp and can benefit from being starched. With proper care they should become future family heirlooms.
